Nice place for a day hike, even with no water in the famous lake. Lake circuit trail is heavily rooted, not well suited to younger children without handholding. Upper trails a bit steep, but a good workout. Plenty of trails well marked. On site store for souvenirs and such. Zip lining available in warmer months.

Nature conservancy and wildlife refuge. Extraordinary viewpoints and highest elevations in Virginia.

Short stay there.... loved it though. Would love to see the Lake back in order

Pretty, but the tree huggers ruined the lake by forbidding them to fill the leak.

Blessings to whoever owns this expansive property, they run it almost like a park. I love that they allow you to simply park where you think you need to, and then hike where you please. The little lake itself looks painfully low, but that's just nature. Bald Knob is here, and truly quite a view. I've been up it for both sunset and sunrise, and while both were neat, I had to climb a tree to see the sunrise.
